Pain in the legs and feet, but also in the knees, hips, and, exceptionally, in the spine and back. Flat feet can be the cause of all this. Genetics are the primary cause, but external factors are mainly responsible for how quickly they manifest. Above all, overweight and workload. “Only exercise will help,” says Professor Rastislav Hromádka in an interview.
A simple solution in the form of shoe inserts will not solve the problems with flat feet. They will relieve the foot, relieve the pain, but will not change the nature of flat feet. “As soon as the pain subsides, the inserts must be removed from the shoes. Wearing them for a long time is not good for the feet,” warns Rastislav Hromádka from the Orthopedic Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the Motol and Homolka University Hospital. What exercises will strengthen the arch of the foot? And why do not only high heels, but also the permanent wearing of so-called barefoot shoes bother the feet?
There are wonderful studies that show that in populations that began wearing shoes en masse after World War II (for example, in South Korea), the incidence of foot defects increased significantly.
